‘I’m like a tree by a stream…

…I’m bearing fruit my leaf is green. All that I do is prospering oh Lord I live by your Word!’

I remember hearing this song on the cassette player (yes!) back in the days in my family home. Somehow this song and the words always keep coming back to me through the years and I find myself singing the words as a declaration of how God wants His children to be.

The verse in the bible for the inspiration of this song is Psalm 1 verse 3;

He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

I love the visual picture that comes to mind when reading this. A tree planted by a river will ALWAYS be green and luscious as it does not have to ‘look’ for the source of life. It is rooted there already. The tree can drink up what it needs to stay vibrant and to thrive. It will always bear fruit at the right time.

My desire is to have this verse as a reality in my life. Planted and connected right to the source of life – God. Not just occasionally but all the time.

This is what God wants for us His children. That we not just ‘exist’ in this life but live flourishing lives prospering in all we do!
